               Intensive Advanced Italian Level 4 and up

Open to students with a good competence in Italian, this course uses the language of cinema to better understand the varieties of spoken Italian. Along with a thorough grammar review, students will be exposed to movies that have been milestones of the Italian Cinema, and are considered emblems of significant moment of Italian history. The course through the analysis of the language and debates on the historical sociological context will encourage students to use a more complex syntax in their oral and written expositions. It is conducted in Italian by native speakers, and the teaching strategy is based on the use of the target language at all times.

Learning Objective
Acquiring fluency and accuracy in the use of complex syntactical structures (particular emphasis will be placed on the use subjunctive in secondary clauses and reported speech).
Knowledge of the most representative directors of the Italian cinematography.
Knowledge of the implications between Italian history and cinema.

               Intensive Elementary Italian Level 1

 

Open to students with little or no prior knowledge of Italian, this course offers the basic tools to understand and use the Italian language in everyday situations. By using a pragmatic-communicative approach to language learning, students will achieve a good degree of self-confidence in understanding, speaking, reading and writing Italian. They will use their linguistic skills to get cultural awareness on the major element in literature, music and art history forming the Italian identity. Interaction with the linguistic environment of the hosting city (through interviews, short stages, short performances with the locals) will play an essential role in the learning process.
The course, through films, music, magazines and games, provides exposition to a wide variety of materials and communicative uses of Italian. It is conducted in Italian by native speakers, and the teaching strategy is based on the use of the target language at all times.

               Intensive Intermediate Italian Level 2/2

  
This course aims to strengthen the linguistic abilities of students with a basic knowledge of Italian, with equal attention given to improve conversational skills, listening and reading comprehension.
Learning Objectives
Students will be expected to understand the essence of most spoken language delivered at normal speed in a familiar accent; to engage with a degree of grammatical correctness and spontaneity in conversations about everyday topics; to express ideas and concepts with little hesitation, through accurate and simple grammatical structures.
Students will be able to understand the main ideas and some implied meanings from text related to common topics, as well as to extract data and opinion from texts of general interest. They will be able to use the target language in writing coherent texts on everyday topics and some specialised once.

               REC- School for Italian Language

Il Centro Europeo di studi rossettiani offre corsi di lingua italiana e moduli di cultura per ogni livello, a Vasto, in uno dei posti più incantevoli della costa adriatica, garantendo ai suoi studenti una full-immersion nella lingua, nella cultura e nello stile di vita italiano e sfruttando al massimo le possibilità di “apprendere”, in un contesto ambientale di relax e divertimento.
Il “Centro Europeo di studi rossettiani”, con il Comune Città del Vasto e sotto il patrocinio dell’Università “G.D’Annunzio” – Chieti – Pescara e in collaborazione con le Università di Napoli “Federico II”, Caen Basse – Normandie (Francia), Birmingham (Gran Bretagna), Oxford (Gran Bretagna) e Yale (U.S.A), ha il compito di tenere alto il nome della città nel mondo, in quanto punto di partenza (“piccola patria”) della prestigiosa famiglia Rossetti. Tra le attività principali si propone infatti di:

* creare una biblioteca specializzata su ogni pubblicazione relativa ai Rossetti e al Decadentismo italiano ed europeo.
* Organizzare seminari,conferenze e corsi d’aggiornamento sul tema dei Rossetti.
* Organizzare corsi di lingua e cultura italiana per studenti e adulti.

Direttore del Centro: Prof. Gianni Oliva, Università “G. D’Annunzio” di Chieti-Pescara.

Gianni Oliva, dopo aver insegnato nell’Università di Perugia e di Roma «La Sapienza», dal 1989 è professore ordinario di Letteratura italiana presso la Facoltà di Lettere dell’Università “G. D’Annunzio” di Chieti, ove dirige il centro ASAM (Archivio scrittori abruzzesi e meridionali) e la rivista «Studi medievali e moderni». Ha tenuto corsi e seminari in numerose università americane ed europee. Considerato uno dei maggiori specialisti dell’Ottocento italiano, ha dedicato le sue ricerche a Verga, Capuana, all’estetismo romano e fiorentino e, soprattutto, a Gabriele D’Annunzio, di cui ha curato l’opera omnia in 11 volumi (Newton Compton), dedicandogli alcuni studi fondamentali, tra i quali I nobili spiriti. Pascoli, D’Annunzio e le riviste dell’estetismo fiorentino (Venezia, Marsilio, 2002, II ed.), D’Annunzio e la poetica dell’invenzione (Milano. Mursia, 1992), Interviste a D’Annunzio (Lanciano, Carabba, 2001) e, l’ultimo, D’Annunzio e la malinconia (Milano, Bruno Mondadori, 2007). E’ direttore di alcune prestigiose collane editoriali per le case editrici Bulzoni, La Scuola, Carabba ed è componente del comitato direttivo delle riviste «Critica letteraria», «La Rivista di Letteratura italiana» e «Letteratura e dialetti». È componente del comitato scientifico dell’Edizione Nazionale per le Opere di Luigi Capuana.

Cinzia Scafetta si è laureata all’Università “La Sapienza” di Roma in Lettere con indirizzo in Storia della musica, Ha proseguito i suoi studi negli Stati Uniti dove ha conseguito un M.A. in Musicologia presso la Tufts University. Dal 1999 al 2004 ha insegnato corsi di Lingua e cultura italiana ad Harvard University. Per due anni consecutivi le è stato conferito dall’Università di Harvard il Certificato di Eccellenza nell’insegnamento per i corsi intensivi di Italiano intermedio e il corso di Lingua italiana attraverso l’opera lirica. È stata anche Lettrice di Lingua italiana e storia presso la Tufts University. Dal 2004 si è trasferita in Inghilterra dove ha insegnato come tutor in Italiano per l’Università di Birmingham e per la Brasshouse Language Centre, il più grande centro del regione specializzato nell’insegnamento delle lingue agli adulti. Ha pubblicato“I madrigali a due e tre voci nelle vicende editoriali di Antonio Gardano e Girolamo Scotto” (1537–1567). Nuova Rivista Musicale Italiana (2003), I madrigali di Oratio Crisci: analisi storico-musicale ed edizione critica, Vasto: Il Nuovo, 1996, e ha contribuito a Gente d’Abruzzo. Dizionario biografico. Indice dei personaggi. Attualmente sta completando il suo PhD in Musicologia presso l’Università di Birmingham ed insegna dizione presso il Conservatorio della Birmingham City University È anche referente in Italia per il Programma estivo di Lingua Italiana che Harvard University ha istituito in Abruzzo nel 2004.
